The City of Lakes, Udaipur will come alive with the second edition of Udaipur World Music Festival 2017. Sponsored by Hindustan Zinc in association with Wonder Cement and Rajasthan Tourism and conceptualized and produced by SEHER, the festival will be held over three days from February 10th to 12th 2017.
The Udaipur World Music Festival is a cultural event held at Udaipur city in the state of Rajasthan. It was created to establish an annual signature event in Rajasthan. It highlights Udaipur as a major destination for World Music Festival in South Asia. The first edition of India’s first World Music Festival was held in February 13th, 2016.
A very first of its kind, Udaipur World Music festival in India celebrates world music. The event is designed to cater to the music sensibilities of people across different ages and from all walks of life. This time, Udaipur World Music festival will be a three day event that will bring together more than 150 artists from over 16 countries including United Kingdom, Italy, South Africa, Senegal, Canada, Armenia, Turkey, Macedonia, Mozambique, Norway, Iran, Cuba, Switzerland and India among other nations to multiple venues across the city of Udaipur.
Udaipur World Music Festival has two venues. Each will showcase a different genre of music. Both venues are specially designed to highlight the beauty of the historic architecture and ambiance of Udaipur. In tune with how certain moods and music are associated there will be different performances different times of the day. The festival will start with romantic treat. During the laid back sunny afternoons, soothing melodies, evenings will end with high energy youthful concerts. The music festival is truly enriching experience for the people of Udaipur city and the visiting tourists.
The first day of the festival, this year will take off from Gandhi Ground where Iranian American Singer Azam Ali will introduce us to the spiritual world of Electro Sufi World Music with her music partner Niyaz and the very famous Kailash Kher & Kailasa will croon Sufi numbers. For an international spin, the collective of musicians from Mozambique, Norway, Sweden and Zimbabwe, Monoswezi will hypnotise the crowd with their fresh spin of traditional African songs.
On the second day, Fateh Sagar Lake of Udaipur will echo with the magical poetic renditions of Ablaye Cissoko from Senegal who will collaborate with the Constantinople Ensemble from Canada for the first time in India. Music lovers will also witness band Kabir Cafe celebrating the great Saint Kabir’s writings. In the evening, Gandhi Ground will come alive with smashing rock numbers of Indian band Parvaaz and South African World Music band Hot Water. The day will conclude with a high-energy performance by Bangalore based folk/fusion band, Swarathma.
The third and final day will commence at Fateh Sagar Paal with Brazilian songs, Afro-Cuban rhythms and Jazz renditions of the vivacious Swiss-Cuban musician Yilian Canizares. The festival will end in the evening at Gandhi Ground with three performances—Italian band Officina Zoe will introduce you to the world of trance with the Trance Therapy Music of Taranta; guitarist and composer Dhruv Ghanekar’s new project Dhruv Voyage will join force with some of the exciting musicians in the country and London Community Gospel Choir will give the festival a fitting spiritual finale.
Besides the music festival, one can also visit various tourist places in Udaipur, the historic capital of the former kingdom of Mewar in Rajputana. The City Palace, Lake Palace, Bagore Ki Haveli, Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, Lake Palace, Jag Mandir Palace, Jagdish Temple, Sajjangarh, Saheliyon Ki Bari and Eklingji Temple are some popular attractions of Udaipur. Kumbhalgarh, Chittorgarh, Nathdwara, Sas-Bahu Temple, Ahar and Ranakpur are the nearest attractions. Udaipur attracts numerous visitors from all over the world due to its historic heritage and rich culture.
