Udaipur, the City of Lakes, will come alive with the third edition of Udaipur World Music Festival 2018. Conceptualized and produced by SEHER, the annual 3 day long festival will be held from 9th February 2018 to 11th February 2018.
The Udaipur World Music Festival is a cultural event held at Udaipur city in the state of Rajasthan every year in February. It was created in order to establish an annual signature event in Rajasthan and also promote Udaipur Tourism. In this event, artists from around the globe join to give a variety of performances. The festival features live performances by international artists. Till date, two editions have been conceptualized, the first was held in 2016 and the second edition was held in 2017.
After much appreciation and affection acquired from the previous seasons of Udaipur World Music Festival, it is back in the City of Lakes with its grand 3rd season to celebrate world music. The event is designed to cater to the music sensibilities of people across different ages and from all walks of life. The festival which witnessed a footfall of more than 50,000 people visiting from different parts of the world during its last two editions, assures an interesting itinerary with artistes from France, US, Nepal, Spain, Italy, Thailand and India giving music lovers a taste of jazz, classical, rock and pop music this edition.
The event will host some of the most renowned music artistes including Italian musician Oi Dipnoi, Himalayan folk singer-songwriter Bipul Chettri, New York-based Indian guitarist and composer Shubh Saran, French musical artist Maya Kamaty, amongst others. Music enthusiasts will be privy to live performances by famous bands like Txarango from Spain and Brazilian singer Flavia Coelho and many other artistes. One can also enjoy soulful renditions by the lauded musical trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy from India and The Ransom Collective from Philippines. The festival will also provide a platform to local Rajasthani artistes along with an insightful exposure to the local communities.
Udaipur World Music Festival has three different venues at three different hours of the day i.e. Morning, Afternoon and Evening. Each will showcase a different genre of music. All the venues are specially designed to highlight the beauty of the historic architecture and ambiance of Udaipur. The festival will start with romantic treat. During the laid back sunny afternoons, soothing melodies, evenings will end with high energy youthful concerts. The music festival is truly enriching experience for the people of Udaipur city and the visiting tourists.
The first day of the festival will take off at the Gandhi Ground in the evening, featuring the performances of Italian music trio Oi Dipnoi, Brazilian artist Flavia Coelho followed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. The second day of the festival will begin at 8 AM at Amet Haveli, where the entry is by invitation only. Hindustani Classical vocalist Shubhadra Desai and the Petrakis Lopez Chemirani Trio from France, Spain and Greece will perform in the morning session while the free-for-all afternoon concerts will begin at Fateh Sagar Paal which feature artists such as Shubh Saran and Maati Bani. In the evening, Gandhi Ground will come alive with performances of Asia 7, Astitva, and Nojazz.
The third and final day will also commence at 8 AM at Amet Haveli, where the entry is by invitation only. Dhruv Bedi, Aruna Sairam and Dominique Vellarad will perform in the morning while the Swiss band Amine and Hamza, and Indian artist Ankur Tiwari, among others perform in the free for all afternoon concerts at Fateh Sagar Paal. The festival will end in the evening at Gandhi Ground with four performances by The Ransom Collective, Buttering Trio, the Anand Bhaskar Collective and Txarango.
